Man charged with causing grievous hurt to sister

Kota Kinabalu: A 42-year-old construction supervisor was charged at the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday with causing grievous hurt to his sister. 

Hamdan Asnan pleaded not guilty to committing the offence on one Asnih Asnan, 33, at 8am on June 19 in a house at Kg Cenderakasih near here. 

The offence under Section 325 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years and liability of a fine on conviction. 

Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun set Aug 17 for case management and released Hamdan on an extended bail. 

Meanwhile, the case of a 36-year-old Filipino, Ismail Rasad, charged with the murder of a fellow Filipino will be mentioned on Sept 7. 

Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat told the court that Ismail, who was previously referred to Hospital Mesra in Bukit Padang, was still detained at the said hospital and that the prosecution has yet to receive a report from the hospital. 

Azaman applied for another mention date. 

Ismail, a Bajau holding an IMM13 document, is accused of murdering one Md Adzmar Alex, 19, also a Bajau with an IMM13 document at 11.30pm on May 1 at Kampung Rampayan, Manggatal. 

The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty on conviction. 

Counsel Azhier Farhan stood in for counsel Ram Singh, who is representing Ismail. 

In another case, eight men were penalised for drug-related offences. 

Fedelis Geni was jailed 18 months and fined RM3,000 or two months' jail after he admitted to having 2.85gm of syabu at 9.46am on May 9 in Sepanggar. 

Rosman Jasman, Dony Rohil, Md Riduan Agus, Md Sari Ibnuraji, Jerry Insal, Abd Rauf Hamid and John Patrick pleaded guilty to taking drugs at separate locations here between April and June. 

Dony was handed four months' jail while the rest were ordered to serve six months.
